Programs of JAN

We worked for every sector and organized programs to aware people to their rights and needs.

Single Women Empowerment Program

Widow, divorced, left women, old age women, wife of a lost person, wife of life imprisoned person, wife of disabled person, etc. comes under this program. Under Govt. provision only widow women come under social security scheme but the socio-economic condition of rest of the women is also very deplorable. Single women donít have same status as other women in society. JAN has done awareness generation and women empowerment work for such women members.

JAN is working for the empowerment of single women since 2009. In order to promote equal rights to single women and their family a series of activities like meetings, conferences, Vichar Gosthi and training were organized for Single Women in Patna, Nalanda, Gaya, Jehanabad, Arwal, and Bhojpur districts in Bihar. 255 single women's names were also forwarded to local administration to get the benefits of social security schemes and family benefits programs.

Mental Health Awareness Program:

Mental health is hugely under-resourced and neglected as a health issue in Bihar and therefore JAN is working for long to bring about lasting changes in the lives of mentally ill people in Nalanda district in Bihar. At present, there are 40,000 mentally ill persons and there are very little works has been done for them in Bihar.

In 2018-19, JAN organized mental health awareness programs in the Hilsa block reaching 245 family members of the people with mental illness and or epilepsy and their families to live and work successfully in their communities by combining health, socio-economic and community orientated solutions to them. 225 mentally ill persons have also provided timely treatments in the health treatment camps of NBJK, Hazaribagh. The program was a success and 150 mentally ill persons have now fully rehabilitated and taken full responsibility for their families successfully.

Panchayati Raj Awareness Program

Under Panchayati Raj System, lots of works has been allotted to ERs. But, Ward members and Sarpanch are not fully sensitized on their works, responsibilities, and rights. In 2018-19, awareness programs were organized in Hilsa block of Nalanda district and Nardiganj block of Nawada district in Bihar on educational rights, child rights, child marriage, dowry system and Rural Development Programs like NAL JAL YOJNA, Roads, Kisan Samman Yojna, Fish Farming, Poultry Farming etc.

Farmers Awareness Programs

JAN organized awareness camps and seminars for small and marginal farmers to make them informed on the use of vermin compost, water, irrigation process, improved seed varieties for improved agriculture practices and also about the dairy, poultry farming, and Kisan Samman Scheme. 250 farmers of the Nalanda, Gaya and Jehanabad districts were benefitted by the program.

Campaigns against Child Marriages

JAN is regularly mobilizing the community for eradication of child marriages from society. In 2018-19, meetings, focus group discussion, rally, etc. were periodically organized by JAN in 50 villages of Nalanda and Jehanabad districts in Bihar. A total of 2100 populations were successfully reached. The program has brought right sensitization among the larger population for the eradication of child marriages from society.

Reproductive Health Awareness Program

Conducted community awareness generation programs in 50 villages of Hilsa block in Nalanda district in Bihar. A total of 50,000 populations were reached through meetings, focus group discussions and one to one counseling sessions on RH, family planning, immunization, delaying first childbirth, child spacing etc.

Awareness of Environment, Climate Change, Safe Drinking Water, Sanitation, Women Empowerment, and Disaster Management

JAN believes that awareness of Environment, Climate Change, Safe Drinking Water, Sanitation, Women Empowerment, and Disaster Management are very important for the development of the society. In 2018-19, meetings, focus group discussion, rally, etc. were periodically organized by JAN in schools, community places and villages in Hilsa block covering important aspects of these relevant issues in details. A total of 6000 populations were directly and indirectly benefited by the awareness programs.

JAN Believe in Ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

Skill Building for Youth/Dropout Girls

Unemployment is one of the biggest barriers in the path of development of a state and country as a whole. JAN is committed to support the unprivileged youths and Dropout Girls to prepare them with adequate skills so that they can retain themselves in this rapidly growing professional world. In this initiative JAN has been holding hands with various partners to provide youth and Dropout Girls with a new hope of employment or entrepreneurship which can be important factor in developing the standard of living of many households.

Joint Action Networking (JAN) came into existence in the year 2000 in Nalanda district in Bihar by a group of dedicated social workers and activists who were inspired by the ideologies of great freedom fighters and personalities like Gandhi, Binoba and Jaipraksh Narayan for the promotion of an equal, peaceful and progressive India. Since inception, JAN is working to reduce poverty, illiteracy, unemployment, etc. from the society in different districts of Bihar with a people-centric approach putting the poor and marginalized at the center of all its development initiatives

Major Objectives

  • To improve the services of primary health care, education, food and nutrition, sanitation and agriculture practices.
  • To protect and empower women.
  • To support youngsters in rural areas and urban slums to get opportunities for skill development and livelihood.
  • To facilitate and promote health and hygiene specific to maternal and child health.
  • To create equal opportunities for education for poor children and illiterate adults.
  • To develop appropriate rural technology and unconventional energy sources.
  • To work for the development and promotion of the rights of people like disabled (mental and physical), single women and girls.
  • To ensure the holistic development of children and youth.
  • To work for bio-diversity management, plantation, pollution, and climate change issues.
  • To conduct/ organize and facilitate all other programs/activities supportive and complementary as required morally being helpful achieving the objects of social development as a whole.
